Installing Cutenews
Installing cutenews
1. Make sure your site is "Php" enabled as cutenews will not work on sites such as freewebs-so you must be hosted or have your own domain.
2. Download Cutenews from
http://cutephp.com/ and unzip the folder.
3. Once you have unzipped the folder upload the whole folder onto your ftp.
NOTE Open Cutenews before uploading as the Cutenews folder is a seperate folder within the zip file.
4. Once cutenews has been uploaded onto your FTP, you need to chnage the permissions of certain files (you need to chmod the data files to the directory 777) . Open the directory file Cutenews on your FTP there will be a file saying Data right click on that and go to change permissions each FTP program is different but all you need to know is to make sure all the boxes are ticked and then press okay. You need to make sure you do this for all the files and folders located in the data directory aswell.
5. Once that is done open your internet browser and type your url then /Cutenews, this should open cutenews and you should see a button saying "proceed with installation". Click that button and follow the prompts.
6. Once you have completed the installation cutenews will ask you to delete a file for security reasons so go back to your FTP go into the cutenews folder and then find inc-directory and delete the file install.mdu.
7. Now that cutenews is installed you can begin putting news on your site. First you need to integrate the news to your site so go to options-integration wizard-integrate news to your site. This will give you a code that you will place in the below code where it says PLACE CODE HERE. (also remove the stars)
8. To get the news to show on your site you place the above code on whatever page you wish the news to show up, and save the extension as .php
not html
The number refers to how many news items you wish to show on your page. Category is the category it is in, to do that you go to options-Edit categories-Type category name in-create (you can have more than one cateogry). Template refers to the template that will style the way your news is shown. To create a template go to options-edit templates-create new template.
9. Now your news will show up on your site and to add news all you do is click on add news and type your little heart away.
I hope this tutorial helps you out.....
Installing your own Smilies
To instll your own smilies you go into your ftp go into cutenews-data-emoticons and you first delete all the files in the folder. You then upload your own smilies into that directory (making sure the smilies your uploading are with the extension .gif) once the files are uploaded log in to cutenews and go options-system configurations and where it says smilies type the name of each smilie in the order they are in your ftp. Making sure you seperate them with a comma.
Cutenews Logo
Having issues with the cutenews logo ("content management powered by cutenews" on your page then to remove it completely from your site, try adding this
to your first include code-remember to remove the stars. This should remove the message ... (yes thats all it takes to remove the almighty powered-by-message).
